The Obama-Biden Plan

► Expand Hate Crimes Statutes: In 2004, crimes against LGBT Americans constituted the third-highest category of hate crime reported and made up more than 15 percent of such crimes. Barack Obama cosponsored legislation that would expand federal jurisdiction to include violent hate crimes perpetrated because of race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or physical disability. As a state senator, Obama passed tough legislation that made hate crimes and conspiracy to commit them against the law.

► Fight Workplace Discrimination: Barack Obama supports the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and believes that our anti-discrimination employment laws should be expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity. While an increasing number of employers have extended benefits to their employees' domestic partners, discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace occurs with no federal legal remedy. Obama also sponsored legislation in the Illinois State Senate that would ban employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

► Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples: Barack Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights.

► Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: Barack Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples.

► Repeal Don't Ask-Don't Tell: Barack Obama agrees with former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff John Shalikashvili and other military experts that we need to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. The key test for military service should be patriotism, a sense of duty, and a willingness to serve. Discrimination should be prohibited. The U.S. government has spent millions of dollars replacing troops kicked out of the military because of their sexual orientation. Additionally, more than 300 language experts have been fired under this policy, including more than 50 who are fluent in Arabic. Obama will work with military leaders to repeal the current policy and ensure it helps accomplish our national defense goals.

► Expand Adoption Rights: Barack Obama believes that we must ensure adoption rights for all couples and individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation. He thinks that a child will benefit from a healthy and loving home, whether the parents are gay or not.

► Promote AIDS Prevention: In the first year of his presidency, Barack Obama will develop and begin to implement a comprehensive national HIV/AIDS strategy that includes all federal agencies. The strategy will be designed to reduce HIV infections, increase access to care and reduce HIV-related health disparities. Obama will support common sense approaches including age-appropriate sex education that includes information about contraception, combating infection within our prison population through education and contraception, and distributing contraceptives through our public health system. Obama also supports lifting the federal ban on needle exchange, which could dramatically reduce rates of infection among drug users. Obama has also been willing to confront the stigma -- too often tied to homophobia -- that continues to surround HIV/AIDS. He will continue to speak out on this issue as president.

They keep telling us that since it's a matter of human rights and there are still 2-3 million votes note counted - we should wait. Meanwhile, the YES people are dancing in the streets - rejoicing their PREJUDICE!!!

Yet even if we manage to squeak out a last minute victory (which seems at this point a tenuous hope at best) I know that in "liberal" Los Angeles county where I live, the vote was split 50% - 50%. As I write this it seems that there were only 20,806 more votes for Prop 8 than against.

So as I walk around today, one out of every two people I see DO NOT want me to have equal rights. They see me as inferior, because I'm gay. And that is so hurtful, and it makes me unbelievably mad. It makes me want to scream at them. Makes me want to try to hurt every one of the over 5,160,000 California voters for Prop 8 in a way that makes them understand how they've made me feel. How much they failed in their attempt to belittle, to marginalize, to shame me and my love.

But my challenge - my true challenge of character - is that the OTHER one of those two people DO want me to have equal rights. They DO value me as a human being, and they DO believe that our country really does stand for "Liberty and Justice For ALL" and that "All" includes Gay Americans like me. I want to hug them. All 4,760,000 plus of them.

And as I walk around, I have no idea who is who.

So I have a choice. Succumb to the tidal wave of bitterness that threatens to overwhelm me? See the glass as half empty, see everyone as a potential Nazi Gay-hating jerk?

Or see the good? Believe the glass is half-full? Take heart at the progress Gay Americans have made in such a relatively short time, compared to the slow progress of public opinion in "approving" interracial marriage?

It is confusing and emotional. And it has totally ruined my Obama day. The black community voted 75% FOR 8. shocking. it wasnt' so long ago they didn't have rights. I don't understand. Why would anyone not want Cooper to be equal?

In another case of bad situation turned worse, the liberal bloggers exposed a family issue in regards to the conservative vice presidential pick Alaskan governor Sarah Palin. Senator John McCain has angered two former front-runners to the VP nod. President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are not attending the GOP convention. And to make it worse, California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is not attending. Schwarzenegger is well liked among Republicans. Republicans who spent their hard money and those who participated in the "Why I Am A Republican in 2008!" are probably angry about the three major headliners not attending the event.

In the latest chapter of misfortune, it was revealed that Alaskan governor Sarah Palin has an unwed daughter that is pregnant. This also makes a bad situation worse, the Gallup Poll didn't show any bounce to the pick of her. Senator John McCain has been railing against the Obama campaign on experience. Well the liberal bloggers are fighting back with proof. Also there's reports that Palin's former brother in law and mother in law are temped to vote for Obama. Even Cindy McCain's half-sister is planning on voting for Obama.

Talk radio thinks Senator Barack Obama is in a crisis! No really, who you think is in a crisis?

But what they expose may not only jeopardize the momentum Governor Palin has, but also place the Obama campaign at fault. After finding out the story from reporters. Senator Barack Obama has stated clearly:

"Spouses and children are off limits. If anyone in [the Obama] campaign were responsible for this, they will be fired immediately!"

So, I ask all those who are critical of Palin, not to go too hard on her. Hit her over issues, don't take any low road tactics to undermine her service as governor of a state. She is a parent and dealing with the situation as best as she can.

Obama has taken the high road when it came to critics on talk radio, networks such as Fox News and those in the internet. Will the critics back off Obama's wife?

I doubt it.

This song anticipated the wild ride of California's governorship that has brought us to the current Californicator. With Obama already bearing the brunt of racist reactions, the Tom Bradley campaign in California is significant. Tom Bradley, the popular mayor of Los Angeles was running double digit leads for governor in the polls. Deukmajian ran a political ad that was incredibly simple: they just put the pictures of Deukmajian and Bradley (a black man) next to each other and ask "Who do you really want?" According to a Wikipedia note, "The discrepancy between the polling numbers and the election's ultimate results would come to be termed "the Bradley effect," which refers to the tendency of white voters to tell interviewers or pollsters that they are undecided or likely to vote for a black candidate, but then actually vote for his opponent." Al Campanis was the beloved general manager of the LA Dodgers who was forced to resign after an absurd comment that blacks were not good swimmers because they "weren't as bouyant." Racist stereotypes are still rampant and destructive. The rest of the Duke's hypocrisies are fairly self-explanatory.

Ah-nold says California will sue the Bush administration next week over their inaction on allowing the state to limit auto emissions of gases linked to global warming.

We Californians are trying to get rid of our pollutants, see, and BushCo...Well, they're being their usual Big Oil-lovin' selves. We've been nudging the EPA about this since 2005. And this law has been a model for statutes passed in 11 other states.

The EPA's approval is needed for California to implement a law more stringent than federal clean-air standards, and the agency has granted every such request California has made over the past 30 years.

They're going to court on Wednesday.
