Some of her best-known roles have included Glinda in Broadway's Wicked and Annabeth Schott in television's The West Wing. She is currently appearing in the role of Olive Snook on the ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies for which she received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy. She is also the face of Jude Frances jewelry. Chenoweth has a distinctive speaking voice. In FHM's March 2006 issue, she compared her voice to that of Betty Boop. Chenoweth is a soprano known for her powerful singing technique.</p> <p>Chenoweth was born Kristi Dawn Chenoweth (she added an "n" in her first name later because she thought that "Kristin" was a more operatic name than "Kristi") in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and was adopted at birth. Chenoweth's ancestry includes one-quarter Cherokee lineage. After studying drama at Broken Arrow High School under Billie Sue Thompson, Chenoweth attended Oklahoma City University, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta (Beta Omicron) Sorority. She earned a bachelor's degree in musical theater and a master's degree in opera performance, studying under Florence Birdwell who taught Miss America 1981 Susan Powell and three-time Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara. While at OCU, Chenoweth won the title of "Miss OCU" and went on to win second runner-up in the Miss Oklahoma pageant in 1991. The following season, she appeared in the City Center Encores! production of the George and Ira Gershwin musical Strike Up the Band and the Lincoln Center Theater production of William Finn's A New Brain. She has performed several times on the radio program A Prairie Home Companion.</p> <p>During the 19981999 season, she performed in the Broadway revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown as the title character's sister, Sally, a character that was not present in the original production. (That character replaces the obscure Peanuts character Patty, not to be confused with Peppermint Patty.) The production won Chenoweth the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards as the season's Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She then starred in the Broadway comedy Epic Proportions, followed by appearances in ABC's television adaptation of the musical Annie (as Lily St. Regis), and in the leading role of Daisy Gamble in the City Center Encores! production of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.</p> <p>In 2003, Chenoweth performed songs from her album Let Yourself Go in concert for Lincoln Center's 5th American Songbook. In London, she was involved in Divas at Donmar for director Sam Mendes, then appeared in the Actor's Fund Benefit Concert of the musical Funny Girl in New York City.</p> <p>In October 2003, Chenoweth returned to Broadway in Wicked, the smash hit musical about the early years of the witches of Oz. She was required to work on every show in the five-show season in some capacity, either onstage or behind the scenes. While she was a member, Rainbow Company was awarded the title Best Children's Theatre in the United States two years in a row. By the time she left the company, Lisa was a veteran of over 40 productions, including drama, comedy and musical theatre. Lisa went on to study at Los Angeles City College's Theatre Academy and began working professionally at the age of 18.</p> <p>Lisa's film and television credits include regular and recurring roles on such series as His and Hers, Married with Children, Great Scott!, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, and Dangerous Women, as well as guest roles on such series as The Closer, ER, The X-Files, The Fighting Fitzgeralds, Titus, Step by Step, Wings and Howe High. Film credits include roles in the soon-to-be-released Jekyll, The Earth vs. The Spider, Enchanted, Strange Days and The Homestead. </p> <p>You may have seen her running down a grocery store aisle, scooping up packages of Quilted Northern Bathroom Tissue or serving up bowls of Dreyers Grand Ice Cream, as she has done dozens of national television commercials, including such other products as Western Union, Pizza Hut, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Nutri-system, and Zings, among others.</p> <p>One of Lisa's favorite projects was creating and hosting the cult-favorite Internet series entitled Oh, For God's Sake, I Don't Get It!, episodes of which can still be seen at www.onlinevoice.com.</p> <p>Lisa is the recipient of several critics' awards and nominations for her extensive work in Los Angeles legit and musical theatre, including such productions as Merrily We Roll Along, both at West Coast Ensemble and Reprise! (LA Weekly Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress), Company (Garland and Dramalogue Awards), A Quarrel of Sparrows (LA Weekly Award nominee), Music From Down the Hill (Dramalogue Award), and Quilters (Dramalogue Award), among many others.
