<p><p>And these guys wonder why we almost always assume they're exaggerating any threat.</p><p>One day there are like seven terrorists in Miami planning to blow things up. The next day we find out they are a couple stoned dudes who would have said anything for a big bag of salt & vinegar potato chips. </p><p>And now, shockingly, just a few days after President Bush referred to a "provocative act," by the Iranians, our government is backtracking on that supposed threat from Iranian speedboats in the Strait Of Hormuz:</p><blockquote><p>Just two days after the U.S. Navy released the eerie video of Iranian speedboats swarming around American warships, which featured a chilling threat in English, the Navy is saying that the voice on the tape could have come from the shore or from another ship. </p></blockquote><p>It is a pretty sad thing to get to the point where you just immediately assume your President is lying to you. But since we can't I'm posting one, and you can go <a href="http://www.towleroad.com/2008/01/pentagon-now-ca.html">here</a> for the other one (which would be the video on the left at that site).</p><blockquote><p>The video on the left was released by the Pentagon, <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080110/wl_mideast_afp/iranusmilitary_080110084026">who claimed "Iranian speedboats swarmed around US warships in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday and radioed a threat to blow them up."</a> In response, <strong>Iranian TV broadcast the video on the right showing a clip of the incident from the Iranian point of view</strong>. [That's the one I posted here]<br /> </p><p>The <em>New York Times</em> reported today that <strong><a href="http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/10/degrees-of-confidence-on-us-iran-naval-incident/">the doubters of the legitimacy of the U.S. reports now include the Pentagon itself</a>:</strong> "Unnamed Pentagon officials said on Wednesday that the threatening voice heard in the audio clip, which was released on Monday night with <strong>a disclaimer that it was recorded separately from the video images and merged with them later, is not directly traceable to the Iranian military</strong>. That <strong>undercuts one of the most menacing elements</strong> from the Pentagon’s assertion that Iranian forces threatened the Navy ships: The voice on the radio saying, 'I am coming to you. … You will explode after … minutes.'"</p> <p>UK's <em>Telegraph</em> <strong><a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/core/Content/displayPrintable.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/01/10/wiran110.xml&amp;site=5&amp;page=0">noted that the Iranian clip</a></strong> <strong>"shows no threat to US navy</strong>."</p></blockquote><p>Even more about this <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4115702&amp;page=1">here.</a> And <a href="http://dandelionsalad.wordpress.com/2008/01/10/bush-admin-pushes-united-states-closer-to-war-with-iran-by-dennis-kucinich/">Dennis Kucinich</a> has something to say about it too. </p><p>Darn! I guess Bush's Secret Message is all mangled and wrong and backtracky now. What Secret Message?
