They are working, I believe with the governors and the legislators, we can come together and establish risk pools that are spread widely to ensure those people who are in that category with chronic illnesses and with the so called uninsurables. If we're gonna keep health care viable in America we have to understand, as you said, that there are some people that simply cannot acquire insurance. So we the Federal Government are gonna have to contribute and the states contribute as well. And we're going to have to talk to all the Governors and Legislators and maybe allow them to tailor some of the programs that are unique to their states and their challenges. But I don't frankly, I've studied, I've thought, I've talked, I've read for years and were gonna have to have these GAP programs" [...]</p> <p>QUESTIONER: [...] "I am concerned about cancer survivors and people like that getting coverage. And I'd like to give every family in America $5,000 refundable tax credit so they can go all over America and get the health insurance policy of their choice."</p> <p>QUESTIONER: "As far as allowing competition over state lines, are you going to allow that to supersede state laws like Michelle's Law that we have here in New Hampshire, that insists that insurance companies cover college students when they have a serious illnesses."</p> <p>MCCAIN: "We are going to have to work with the states but I also I want people to have the ability to go across state lines to obtain insurance. That doesn't mean I'm going to force certain regulations and rules on the states. But I do think there maybe insurance companies in some other states or other areas of America who might be able to insure people, or them to obtain insurance policies. When asked in surveys, most Americans generally responded that they had a much higher tolerance of immigrants from Canada mainly because Canadians seemed more assimilable and like &#39;other Americans.&#39; However, when the same survey was given to Canadians, less than thirty percent identified with Americans--differing mostly on political viewpoints. While clarifying immigration policy today, the Canadian Premier in Ontario gave an example of the stark contrast between the two neighboring states while the actions of the federal government in deporting undocumented students&nbsp;said otherwise.</p><p>While&nbsp;the United&nbsp;States is busy deporting undocumented immigrant students and the&nbsp;states in the deep South are retreating back into time by closing doors on&nbsp;students, our neighbors&nbsp;up North are also struggling with the issue. In Ontario, Canada, politicians&nbsp;have expressed a &quot;don&#39;t ask don&#39;t tell&quot; policy on undocumented immigrant students. He is the joint president of the University and College Union (UCU), the largest tertiary-education union in the world, and the national co-ordinator of the Institute of Ideas' Education Forum. He also writes a 'Backchat' column for 'FE Focus' in The Times Educational Supplement.</p> <p>He is the author of many other best-selling books including: Defending Higher Education: the Crisis of Confidence in the Academy (2005), The Routledge Falmer Guide to Key Debates in Education (2004), Teaching and Training in Post-Compulsory Education (2003), Working in Post-Compulsory Education (2003), and The McDonaldization of Higher Education (2002).
