There are many of them who don't make videos, but they do make extremely hateful and racist comments. Many of them will spit out fake statistics and facts that are detailed so the may appear real. These are crafted fabrication designed to deceive voters. I don't trust these people when all I hear is hate. No compromise, no logic, no reasoning. Really no regard for the truth. They just have an agenda. Just get as much bull shit out they can. These people don't sound like they are really concerned about any problems in America, if they were they would be aware of all ideas. Right now the Republicans ideas are bad. It is easy to see they need to clean house and get back to their conservative roots. But to hear these faceless people tell the story, the Republicans are great and liberal is used as if it is an insult coming from people who supported a candidate that is a direct product of the liberal movement.

This is a response to BigTicer. If Hillary is the leader that every Hillary supporter says she is than why not trust her judgment on Obama? Furthermore, if she is just paying lip service, then why support a candidate that would acts according to what is best for their political future and not principle? So I think you Hillary supporters are in a catch 22. You either admit that you don't trust her judgment, or you admit that has taken the politically expedient way out, but you can not deny both.

Afghan support for raid in Pakistan - 20 Jun 08

Afghan and Nato troops say they've driven Taliban fighters from villages within striking distance of Kandahar City after a 24-hour raid in Arghandab.

The Nato-led operation was launched after the Taliban blasted open Kandahar's main jail, freeing more than a thousand prisoners.

It was an attack which embarrassed the Afghan government, and prompted Hamid Karzai to threaten to send his troops into Pakistan to take out Taliban leaders.

His comments caused outrage across the border, but as Dan Nolan found, many inside Afghanistan are welcoming the plan.

As professor of political science, Dr. Rice has been on the Stanford faculty since 1981 and has won two of the highest teaching honors -- the 1984 Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 1993 School of Humanities and Sciences Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching.

At Stanford, she has been a member of the Center for International Security and Arms Control, a Senior Fellow of the Institute for International Studies, and a Fellow (by courtesy) of the Hoover Institution. Her books include Germany Unified and Europe Transformed (1995) with Philip Zelikow, The Gorbachev Era (1986) with Alexander Dallin, and Uncertain Allegiance: The Soviet Union and the Czechoslovak Army (1984).

She also has written numerous articles on Soviet and East European foreign and defense policy, and has addressed audiences in settings ranging from the U.S. Ambassador's Residence in Moscow to the Commonwealth Club to the 1992 and 2000 Republican National Conventions.

A letter to a friend on his birthday
by Sam Harris

Happy Birthday. In this new year - I ask you to create the vision for what you want this year to be - for yourself, for those you love and for the world. It will affect everything you choose to do. Every day. Every action I take is reflection of what I want my world to be.

In this new year - be brave. Speak up against the wrongs you encounter. Neutrality gives voice to the oppressor, never the oppressed. Silence give a platform to the tormentor, never the tormented. Silence in the company of judgment justifies the act.

Be stronger than your fear or those who perpetrate fear. Investing in worry brings the subject of your fear into reality. Worrying is like praying for what you don't want.

We get to choose between love and fear every day - every moment. That's all there is. EVERYTHING comes from one of those two things. And we get to choose. We are creatures of free will.

Love knows no separation, no division, no hierarchy. Love sees us all as one.

There are those who will not agree. There are those who think that bigger bank accounts will stave off the demons. Bigger locks on our doors will protect us from the demons. And bigger guns will keep the demons out. When, in reality, fear of the demons is the demon.

There is nothing wrong with having money or being cautious or protecting ourselves - but when it is a solution to fear, it will never be enough.

So this year, motivate yourself to act out of what you desire, not what you are afraid of. In this new year, invest in how you want to feel, rather than in getting the things you think will make you feel good after you've gotten them.

If you want to diet, do it because it feels right and good to do something for yourself - to feel better, to look better, to be better, not because when you lose weight, someone will love you or you'll have a better job or your mother won't criticize you - and that will make you feel good. It is the process.

For those of us who love immediate gratification - the process of feeling good begins the moment we say "yes."

If you want to get your finances together, do it because it feels good to have order and well being - not because when you get your finances together you'll be able to buy the things that will make you feel good. It is the process.

It's all about the process - the ride - not the result. Choose the goal, get in action and let go of the result. When I choose the result, I don't have room for, nor can I see anything but my idea of the goal. And what's going to happen could be so much larger and bigger and better than what I think I want to happen. God's imagination is much bigger and better than mine. So just be in action toward the goal and let it take you wherever it may. If I say "yes" and go into the world - I don't know what's going to happen. But something is going to happen. If I say "no" I know what's going to happen - nothing. Do you want to stick with what you know and remain inactive - or jump into the unknown, where you are going to experience joy and sadness and love and loss and change and discomfort and growth and empowerment and activity and - life? This year - I choose "yes."

Everything we do is motivated from either wanting something we don't have or fearing that we will lose something we do have. This new year - unfurrow your brow. Stop coveting. Stop worrying about what you might lose� Or who you are if you don't get what you want - or think you are entitled to.

Keep your goals in mind but only as motivation for action - let the result be a surprise. Replace your fears and uncertainties with the accomplishment of living fully - daily. The small, seemingly unimportant tasks that make a life large.

Are we now living in an era that echoes the 1960s? Comparisons between the wars in Iraq and Vietnam have become commonplace rhetorical devices in political campaigns, newspaper columns, and stand-up comedy routines. These comparisons can be illustrative, illuminating, and even funny, but are they apt?

In conversation with Grace Cathedral's Dean, Alan Jones, U.C. Berkeley professor of history Kathleen Frydl will discuss the cultural features - the rise of the mass media, fluctuations in American knowledge and public opinion, the level of public trust in government - of the Vietnam Era against the backdrop of the intervening 40 years and today's zeitgeist.

Kathleen Frydl's field is the U.S. since 1607, with special emphasis on the 20th century. Thus far her research has focused on political history and, within that subfield, she has maintained a particular interest in institutions. She lectures survey courses on recent U.S. history, political history from the Gilded Age, and (with her colleague Peter Zinoman) on the Vietnam War.

Her forthcoming book, The GI Bill, will be published by Cambridge University Press - Grace Cathedral
