Pulitzer Prize-winning author and columnist Tom Friedman discusses the increasing trend of developing nations to aspire to U.S. levels of economic consumption, and warns that this trend may be extremely detrimental to the global environment.

-----

In this talk, New York Time columnist and author Tom Friedman exposes the irrationality of U.S. policies that promote consumption of vast quantities of oil.

Friedman stresses that the United States must lead efforts to develop energy alternatives that would 1) free us from our dependence on petro-dictatorships and 2) help preserve the earth, oceans, and biodiversity.

The program concludes with a Q and A between Friedman and Editor of The New Republic, Frank Foer - Sixth and I Synagogue

Thomas L. Friedman, a columnist for The New York Times, is a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner and a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board. Friedman was bureau chief for The Times in Beirut and Jerusalem before writing, From Beirut to Jerusalem, which won the National Book Award for non-fiction. His book, The Lexus and the Olive Tree won the 2000 Overseas Press Club award for best nonfiction book on foreign policy. His latest work, The World is Flat: A Brief History of the 21st Century, won the inaugural Goldman Sachs/Financial Times Business Book of the Year award. He has a B.A. in Mediterranean studies from Brandeis University and a Master of Philosophy degree in Modern Middle East studies from Oxford.

Sunny Baba has been creating uniquely beautiful living structures in communities, personal residences and gypsy wagons, for over 40-years. His heartfelt wisdom is an inspiration to let go of our mental scripts that may limit us from doing a dream or convince us its not possible, and so we done imagine much beyond the box of our scripts and find the courage to let our imagination run wild! This courage to take heart and imagine, is perhaps needed now more than ever.

First/preliminary leg of our journey. We leave Bellingham, WA for my childhood home across the state in Spokane. Along the way we visit such places as the Bellingham Community Food Co-op, a community canvassing meeting for Barack Obama Christine Gregoire Kevin Ranker and the Washington Conservation Voters, Farmer's Market, the Hub Community Bike Co-op and the Hempest (organic sustainable clothing store).

Along the way we battle a weak CV axle and worry about funding... there is a lot that needs to be done if this cross country documentary is going to happen.

Upcoming episode should include goodies like interviews with grassroots political organizers, the creators of the Tango electric car (it's FAST!), program director of KYRS LP community radio (one of a kind!) and more.

Please visit www.jessicaandolivia.com Please share story ideas and tell your friends!

(and if anyone can help me with the compression of the HD footage on Final Cut Express on a MacBook feel free to drop me a line!)

Catastrophe As Opportunity: from the Ashes at Lama The world in which we live spins wildly out-of-balanced. From natural resources being near exhaustion, industrial poisons indiscriminately dumped into waterways, chemical pesticides once used as weapons of war, now dumped by the gallons on our food sources and injected into our soils, while global warming gives rise to temperatures significant enough to cause catastrophic fires, hurricanes and the melt of the Polar Ice Cap. With warning signs like these, still most refuse to see the edge of collapse to which we all live perilously close. There are those however, who see this edge in clear view. Travel with us as we visit one such community of seers. Among Americas oldest

a future of possibility
Lama Foundation, located in the Mountains of New Mexico is host to Grow Here Now and Build Here Now. Annual workshops which bring together teachers as well as students of sustainability. Join us as we examine "what is permaculture" as we attend the Grow Here Now - Convergence at Lama.

Permaculture is a word originally coined by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in the mid 1970's to describe an "integrated, evolving system of perennial or self-perpetuating plant and animal species useful to man" 'Consciously designed landscapes which mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature, while yielding an abundance of food, fibre and energy for provision of local needs. People, their buildings and the ways in which they organize themselves are central to permaculture. Thus the permaculture vision of permanent or sustainable agriculture has evolved to one of permanent or sustainable culture.

directed by Catherine Margerin
Visionary Willy Whitefeather
produced by Mary Mathaisell

This animated visual film short you are about to see is a story of prophecy.
The story of man going down the wrong path, with one day the possibility of finding the path of peace and love. What we are seeing around the world with wars, genocide, diseases, climate change such as global warming, and potential earth changes that have been foretold by many seers and indigenous peoples. This is that story in animated visuals and soundtrack that will shake you to your roots. We must shift to this path, without hesitation.

Directed by Catherine Margerin, produced by Luna Media. Its is being posted with consent and vision of Willy Whitefeather, visionary for "HOPE"

Bruce Weaver is currently working on a feature documentary which has this story come to life with interviews with such visionaries as Willy Whitefeather and many other visionary and seers of our time.

"Hope" is a unique and powerful short film with a message of peace for the future. Combining animation, archival footage and live action, in a multi-layered non-linear story, the film brings the viewer on a fascinating journey through human existence. 'Hope' is shaped around the knowledge and ideas of Willy Whitefeather, a man in his sixties of Cherokee ancestry, a fascinating storyteller, healer, survivalist and an individual of wisdom and heart. Using traditions and stories from Native American and world cultures, the film combines dreams, images and reminiscences from our collective memory to send a message of hope for the future. Now is the time to reconnect with Spirit, to recognize the effects of our actions, to evaluate the underlying causes of suffering and to reshape our life and our world into a harmonious one.
The film has a visually superb and beautifully dynamic look. The animated scenes are in styles reminiscent of Pueblo pottery design, Sioux painted hides, Petroglyph drawings and Hopi mural paintings. The sound track is similarly layered with the sounds of a beating heart, breathing, wooden flutes, drums, rattles, a traditional Cherokee lullaby and original music. "Hope" urges us to change course and follow a path of wisdom, responsibility, beauty, simplicity and gentleness. Catherine Margerin, a commercial director, known for her unique painterly style animation, is the director of "Hope".
