McCain hit by Hammer on the Hill
During a private luncheon with Republican chiefs of staff on Capitol Hill, DeLay - who has criticized McCain for years - stepped up his attacks in the wake of the senator's reemergence as a top presidential contender. DeLay said McCain has no principles and indicated he would not endorse the senator if he won the GOP primary.
"If McCain gets the nomination, I don't know what I'll do," DeLay said at the Capitol Hill Club, according to a source in the room. "I might have to sit this one out."

The Hammer goes on to say that a McCain nomination would divide the GOP, and accuse Walnuts of being a media "hound". He doesn't seem to like Rudy! very much either-

DeLay is not a fan of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, either. On CNN last year, he said, "I can't vote for somebody that's for abortion. I never have, and I never will."

HA! Eve just reminded me of something-

Republican Rep. John Doolittle, who is under investigation in a congressional lobbying scandal, plans to announce Thursday that he'll retire from Congress at the end of his current term, according to a Republican official who spoke with Doolittle.

The development comes as Doolittle, in his ninth term, faced growing political pressure from fellow Republicans who considered him a liability because of his involvement, along with his wife Julie, in the Jack Abramoff influence-peddling investigation. House Republicans, still smarting from losing control of Congress in 2006, are eager to put that ethics taint behind them.

A Republican voter fraud initiative in Texas is actually a partisan scheme to retain power. How? By suppressing voter turnout of those who don't fall in line with Republicans.

Ya think Tom DeLay, that darling of the Republican fraud sector has his hot-tub-shriveled fingerprints all over this one?

At the same time, former Tom DeLay aide and current Tom Craddick ally, John Colyandro, who remains under felony indictment for money laundering and other charges, has formed a "think tank" that is already using faulty data and illogical statistics to justify vote suppression tactics.

But voter fraud does not exist. Tom's bff Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick says so. What? That's not true? I'm shocked.

These most recent Texas Republican efforts to suppress voter turnout are consistent with Texas AG Greg Abbott's taxpayer funded phony voter fraud enforcement unit that the Lone Star Project has exposed and reported on extensively here.

Why do Tom Craddick and other Texas Republican leaders want to spend taxpayer resources to examine a problem that doesn't exist? Clearly Craddick, Abbott and others are attempting to justify dramatic changes in Texas law and election practices, including voter photo ID requirements, senior mail ballot restrictions and voter roll purges, that will reduce overall voter turnout as demographic changes take place in Texas that are increasing the influence of minorities in Texas elections.

There's a thorough fact check on this that's well worth a look. Go here. Then go pull your hair out. Then, after you've achieved baldness, go donate to your favorite Dem.

Oh, that nutty Tom DeLay! He's the life of every party! We sure as heck do miss that scamp, don't we?

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay may not be in a leadership position on Capitol Hill anymore, but that doesn't mean he can't weigh in on the current GOP leadership.

DeLay told Yeas & Nays that Republicans in Congress are "looking for something to believe in" and "they're not getting it out of this Republican leadership. … The leadership just isn't getting it."

Wuh-oh! Who's side is he on, anyway? What a card!

He said the Republican party is "going to get our clocks cleaned in 2008" and unequivocally said that "Hillary [Clinton] will be the next president." Which ought to give DeLay’s newest projects, the Coalition for a Conservative Majority and a consulting firm called First Principles, LLC, plenty to do.

Gosh, he's fun! Is that him over there, standing on the table with the lampshade on his head? I love this guy!

DeLay gave us is his dour assessment at a book party for former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, which was held at the Georgetown home of former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman. The party was a virtual "who's who" of the conservative movement: Lynne Cheney, Liz Cheney Perry, Scooter Libby, David Keene, Vin Weber, Grover Norquist, Barbara Comstock, Armstrong Williams, Mary Matalin, Ramesh Ponnuru, John Fund, Byron York and Kate O'Beirne.

Lucky ducks, every last one of them! Do you think they played Pin the Tail on ~~Hillary~~ ~~Obama~~ the Democratic Donkey?

But, lest you think that The Hammer is about to start playing for the other team, he did poke fun at New York Times columnist -- and favorite conservative punching bag -- Paul Krugman: "I'd like to bitch-slap him."

Stop! You're killing me, Tommy! Ohmyohdearohcome ON! I can hardly breathe I'm laughing so hard! Whooo!

DeLay also ruled out another stab at politics, even if GOP fortunes reverse: "I'm 60 years old, I'm through."

Um, Tom? Being 60 has nothing to do with it. The laugh's on you.

DeLay rose quickly from an insignificant member of the Texas legislature known more for partying than for lawmaking to a force in national politics. Mastering the art of fundraising was the secret to his success, as he raised millions from corporations for the Republican Party. DeLay also attempted to coerce lobbyists to support Republican goals, with the intent of forming a permanent Republican majority in Congress. To help achieve this aim, he forced the Texas legislature to redraw Congressional districts to add five safe Republican seats. Corporate donations were used in this effort, and this is what got DeLay in trouble. Texas law prohibits corporations from donating to political campaigns.
