Iraqi PM Al Maliki Flies To London For "Exhaustion"

Exhaustion. Yeah, I'm betting he's stressed.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki flew to London on Saturday for what he said was a routine medical checkup, but an official in his office said it was treatment for exhaustion.
The official said Maliki, 57, would also undergo a series of routine checkups, including tests on his heart.
"He is suffering from mild exhaustion. He is also going to have a heart scan," the official said.
"He should have gone to London for the checkup more than a month ago but he waited until after Eid (the Muslim Eid al-Adha feast). Now he has a good opportunity to go for the checkup."
State television showed Maliki, who has been in office since May 2006, boarding his private plane at Baghdad international airport. He appeared healthy and walked to the plane from the terminal building.

Hey, if things really are going so swimmingly in Iraq, why isn't Al Maliki being treated in Baghdad? Tony Snow says things were really only "sour" for about 15 months, McCain and Lieberman have declared success on the war and there are no problems with contractors in the country, so what to be stressed about?

Tony Snow On Fox's "Perceived Bias"

Mr. Snow thinks Fox is perceived as biased because they don't "treat conservatives like knuckle dragging morons," to which I say 1) It is much more than that and 2) conservatives obviously are knuckle dragging morons, with the occasional exception.

Oh, and about that "perceived bias," perhaps this will, for the 201,737th time show why it is much more than perceived...

This is entertaining, in a sick kind of way:

On the Bush Administration's decision-making process: "You don't see it but there's a process where everything gets discussed, and there are some raging arguments.... It's not the case that something is always handed in a neat little bundle to the leader of the free world. He's gotta make some choices....When people look back at this White House, they're gonna find its one that had a lot of intellectual vigor."

"Intellectual vigor" as in: Paris Hilton? Curly Howard? Pauly Shore?

On his alma mater, Fox News: "There's perceived bias on the part of Fox because they don't treat conservatives as knuckle-dragging morons....I think the rap on Fox having a bias is an unfair one. My sense is rather than grousing with a winning formula, people ought to learn from them."

Bias? Faux News is "perceived" as having a bias? Why would anyone call frothing, gasbaggy, loudmouthed, vile, "knuckle-dragging morons" like Bill O'Lielly, Sean Hannity, or John Gibson biased?

I'm sorry. It was unfair to call them morons.

As for learning from them, he's got a point.

We've learned what narrow-minded, mean-spirited liars do to make a name for themselves.

We've learned that something that calls itself a "news" channel is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the worst White House in history.

And we've learned how to raise our own voices and get the truth out more effectively as a result. Perceive that, Tony.

First it's Tony Snow. Now it's Michael P. Jackson who is leaving for "financial reasons":

The Homeland Security Department's second-in-command resigned today, citing personal financial reasons. [...] "The simple truth, however, is that after over five years of serving with the president's team, I am compelled to depart for financial reasons that I can no longer ignore."

With all the spending the Repugs are doing, you'd think they could cough a few bucks up for their own.

Is there even a glimmer of hope that Bush and/or Cheney will feel the pinch and make their own abrupt exits?

I'd even pay them big bucks to resign, but that would defeat the whole rationale, now wouldn't it?

UPDATE: I must have gotten the last 7 years all wrong.

Actually, FOX’s Tony "Snowjob" Snow didn't even say that. From the AP:

Snow, who has been undergoing chemotherapy, said his decision was not related to his health.
"I ran out of money," said Snow, who was a well-paid conservative pundit and syndicated talk-show host on Fox News Radio before taking the job in April 2006.

Good to know he believed in what he was doing and thought that it was important to communicate the president's message and everything. As with most of the things Snow said throughout his 1.5 years as the WH spokesman, it's hard to know if this is an attempt at humor, a humongous lie, or more proof that Snow is just an incredible jerk.

Like when he said that veteran reporter Helen Thomas was representing "the Hezbollah view", or claiming that the civil war and occupation happening on the streets of Baghdad was somehow comparable to Washington DC's high murder rate, or that Iraqi politicians deserved a long summer vacation (unlike US soldiers) because Iraq gets hot in the summer, or that 2,500 dead US soldiers wasn't significant because "It's a number, and every time there's one of these 500 benchmarks people want something", etc, etc. There are too many to choose from, so check out a few lists here and here.

Good riddance, Tony Snow.

PS To those who think it's heartless to say mean things about someone with cancer, I thought he was a liar and a jerk before he was diagnosed, and he's a liar and a jerk now.

Bush Uses Fox News Slogan to Justify Commuting Libby’s Sentence

The Daily Show returned from break this week to do the job you can’t trust the mainstream media to do. Stewart starts off with the Libby trial, where Bush justified commuting Libby’s sentence by saying this:

The Scooter Libby decision was, I thought, a fair and balanced decision.

I wish that was a joke, but he actually said it. Apparently the Bush administration is aiming for the same level of fairness, accuracy and integrity as Faux News.

Stewart also goes on to deconstruct the Bush administration’s tornado-like spin to put a positive face on their own progress report, which found that there was “progress” on just 8 of the 18 benchmarks towards Iraq stability. He also discusses Tony Snow’s insulting excuse for why the Iraqi parliament gets to take a month-long vacation while our soldiers die waiting for them to solve their political differences. Because, you see, Iraq gets hot in the summer.
