Though known for his caustic wit and spontaneous charm, Jayel Aheram suffers from an overwhelming excess of personality. He is a photographer and a hopeless Flickr addict. He is a compulsive writer and often writes about his latest creative endeavors in his blog Aheram Takes On... He is a product of an international upbringing; at home anywhere from the land of the Rising Sun to the sun-scorched dunes where the ageless Euphrates roll.

The Blogger

I launched Aheram Takes On... in early 2005. The blog has been through two design changes, three coding overhauls, and five different purges. In its current incarnation, it is a chronicle of my creative spirit creating, making, and living; a celebration of things that I value and an insight to my creative process.

I have been blogging on and off since 2000, but it was not a serious venture until early 2005 when I launched Aheram Takes On... It is part-art blog, part-journal, and mostly about me. It is nearly always all original content of my own creation, but I will occasionally feature deserving artists.

The Photographer

I am woefully ignorant of the history of photography and as much as I regret to say this, I cannot say I am influenced by any of the great pioneering masters like Ansel Adams and others. My work is neither an emulation of a particular style nor does it assume to present a specific policy. It is an exercise in extrospection, a documentary of the world and its people as I perceive it.

Early 2005 was full of new beginnings for me. It included the launch of my first serious foray into blogging, my enlistment with the Marine Corps, and the adoption of a new hobby. I woke up one morning deciding that I needed something new to occupy my time, something creative. Painting first and then photography came to mind. My interest in photography was piqued partly by my friend Sachenka Brinkley, an amateur photographer. A Flickr account and a new camera later, a career was born. In February 2008, Cat's Eye became live. It is my professional gallery which I use to highlight selected works and portfolios.

"The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations nuclear watchdog, says that Iran has now made about one 1,390 pounds of enriched uranium. Sources tell The New York Times that this amount of uranium is enough for Iran to potentially make one atomic bomb.

Michael Levi, author of "On Nuclear Terrorism," explains the IAEAs statement and comments on a separate report implying that Syria may also be seeking nuclear weapons.

The eyewitness accounts and amateur video footage shown on Syrian TV posed a lot of questions that remain unanswered by the Pentagon and ignored by the Western media. We look at the difficulties of differentiating between truth and propaganda.

After months of stalemate, painstaking negotiations, and political poker play, the US and Iraq have finally agreed on a definite date - to end the US-led occupation of Iraq by 2011.

Iraqi negotiators consider the firm withdrawal date a victory after the outgoing Bush administration had long insisted it would rely on conditions on the ground rather than be tied down to a timetable.

Senior US military officials, on the other hand, have been quoted as privately criticising US President George Bush for giving Iraq more control over American military operations for the next three years than it had contemplated.

Some critics say Bush gave in to Iraqi demands to avoid leaving the decisions to his successor, President-elect Barack Obama

However, the security agreement approved by the Iraqi Cabinet by a resounding majority last week could still be derailed by the Iraqi parliament.

But with talks of conspiracy theories and secret deals circulating in Baghdad, critics believe Iraq's Parliament will be split further, making it even more difficult for the new security pact to be passed.

Iraqi Securiy Act upheaval

The US-backed Iraqi parliament has set a date to vote on a security agreement that would keep US troops in Iraq through 2011.

The decision could anger many US politicians since it will be deliberated without consent from the US congress.

Al Jazeera's Owen Fay reports from Baghdad where thousands of supporters of Moqtada al-Sadr, a senior Iraqi leader opposed to US-led authorities, are also protesting the bill.

In June 2008 Ruggie presented a policy framework to the Human Rights Council for better understanding and advancing the business and human rights agenda.

"This policy framework consisted of three core principles, which were fleshed out in the report: the principle of the state's duty to protect against human rights abuses by third parties, including business; corporate responsibility to respect human rights, which essentially means to do no harm; and the need for greater access by victims to remedy, both judicial and nonjudicial."
