Its aim: to prohibit undocumented students who have lived in the state of Utah for most of their lives from paying instate tuition.</p><p>What is the rationale for this? According to Rep. Glenn Donnelson, R-North Ogden, &quot;I feel that everyone ought to have an education, but what we&#39;re telling these students is that if you graduate you can get a good job, and that is not the case.&quot;</p><p>I disagree. These students know about their status; they are well aware that without a path to legalization, they obviously know they cannot work legally. But here is the reason why he wants this to pass: <em> He said that by encouraging illegal immigrants to get a college education, the state is effectively encouraging them to get falsified documents so they can become employed. </em></p><p>There are many leaps of logic here. First of all, if someone should major in... let&#39;s say, education or biology, in order to apply to most professional jobs, one needs a series of background checks and licensure. These require one to be legally in the country. So according to this logic, these students will fool their employers in their professions with phony IDs. What a bright and insightful conclusion! </p><p>The Associated Press also states, &quot;The bill&#39;s supporters say offering in-state tuition encourages illegal immigrants to settle here.&quot; Which immigrants are they referring to? Most of the adult immigrants that come into this country settle in areas where there are jobs. I seriously doubt that they also think about places where their children can receive instate tuition.</p><p>The bill passed in the House tuesday. Call your congressman and let them know you want them to throw away all the tasers and fire all the bad cops.</p> <p>Under Utah law, when a motorist refuses to sign a ticket, a police officer can do things the easy way, or the hard way. He can make an arrest and jail the offender, or he can simply write "refused to sign" on the dotted line. Either way, the motorist has to pay the fine or show up in court to fight the ticket. That was one of the 4 seats we won that delivered the State Senate back to us.</p><p>I&nbsp;missed a few other&nbsp;important developments last night. First, I must admit I was too quick to dismiss Mississippi and Utah. It seems we took&nbsp;back the state house in Mississippi, while voters in Utah rejected that&nbsp;wasteful and stupid conservative idea for schooling: vouchers. </p><p>In fact,&nbsp;even after gazillionaire founder of Overstock.com poured money into the vouchers&nbsp;initiative, it went down. So touche, Mississippi and Utah, I&#39;ll never doubt again that you guys also have seen through the lies of the Right.</p><p>Also, I am even more embarassed to admit I missed one in my backyard. We ousted the incumbent GOP Mayor in Canton, Ohio, the biggest Ohio city without a Democratic Mayor. Why is that important? Because that is in the heart of Rep. Ralph Regula&#39;s district, the geriatric GOPer who just retired leaving an open U.S. House seat in 2008. One&nbsp;that is trending blue.</p><p>So let me say it again.
