Fighting in Pakistan's Swat Valley, has continued into a fourth day as Pakistani government forces and pro-Taliban fighter groups clash in the volatile region.

The confrontations have left 45 pro-Taliban fighters dead and 11 Pakistani troops dead, Pakistan's military information office said on Saturday.

Thirty-four civilians have died and 70 have been seriously wounded in the clashes, as shells and mortars hit houses, gardens and even a golf course. Zeina Awad has this report.

The Taliban currently has direct control over large areas of the North West Frontier Province in Pakistan and tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan.

But this is only the start according to the Taliban's second-in-command.

Maulana Fazlullah, the Taliban's leader in Swat, has told Al Jazeera the group intends to take control of the entire valley.

Paul is Chairman of the Samsung Science Board, and serves on a variety of other boards and advisory panels, including the Stanford Advisory Council on Science, Technology and Society, and the Long Now Foundation, as well as the boards of several public and pre-public companies located the United States and abroad. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and has served as an advisor and Forum Fellow to the World Economic Forum, which in the late 1990s named Paul one of its "100 Global Leaders For Tomorrow."

Paul's essays have appeared in numerous publications, including Business 2.0, Fortune, The Harvard Business Review, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, The New York Times and the Washington Post and Wired. Paul holds degrees from Harvard College, Cambridge University, and Stanford University.
