From HuffPo's Sam Stein:

For the past two months, a major American magazine and an allied news service have been engaged in a legal battle with the United States Navy over records that they believe show that John McCain once was involved in an automobile accident that injured or, perhaps, killed another individual.

Vanity Fair magazine and the National Security News Service claim to have knowledge "developed from first-hand sources" of a car crash that involved then-Lt. McCain at the main gate of a Virginia naval base in 1964, according to legal filings. The incident has been largely, if not entirely, kept from the public. And in documents suing the Navy to release pertinent information, lawyers for the NS News Service allege that a cover-up may be at play.

Barack Obama Attracts Crowds - John McCain Attracts Audiences Pt. "5-A"| The media loves the ratings, not the candidates!

Senator Barack Obama has been at war with Fox News for many years. I mean where does the list begin? Fox News made a living out of drawing false conclusions about the senator and his wife Michelle. To much dismay in some of the progressive blogs, Senator Barack Obama will appear on The O'Reilly Factor. Senator John McCain blast MSNBC and NBC News for Andrea Mitchell and Keith Olbermann's critical analysis of him. McCain cancels appearance on Larry King Live after CNN anchors make inappropriate comments about the campaign and his vice presidential candidate.

Thanks for viewing and post comments at the bottom. Take a stand against corporate owned media by turning off the television, the radio and internet smear machine off. Let the real media analysis do the hard work for you. Don't let the media control your voice, your judgments, and your vote.

Couldn't help but speak on this forsaken network! After Obama held ground against most of its journalists, in particular Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, the senator eased tension by accepting to be interviewed on the primetime news program.

Of course, the next day, bragging rights? After all, Fox News touts around they are the ones who score big interviews more than the many times he's been on CNN and MSNBC.

Last year, Senator Barack Obama and the Democratic contenders voided two of the networks sponsored debates.

In 2008, Fox News allocated the partisan attacks and plain buffoonery from O'Reilly, Liz Trotta, E.D. Hill, Meghan Kelly, Dr. Jerome Corsi, Juan Williams, Chris Wallace, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Dick Morris, Steve Doocy, Greta Van Susteren, and of course Sean Hannity. Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch brokered a "cease-fire" deal with the Obama campaign. I guess it's a "truce". A bittersweet victory for those who are opposed to Fox News and its antics.

Will this be the "I'll Scratch Your Back, If You Scratch Mine!" moment that O'Reilly gets?

Enough about Fox News, recently in an interview with Jack Cafferty on CNN's The Situation Room, Wolf Blitzer asked the pundit about his thoughts on Senator John McCain. Cafferty responded with the following statement:

It occurs to me that John McCain is as intellectually shallow as our current President.

Campbell Brown from Election Center made a comment that angered the McCain Campaign in which it canceled his appearance on Larry King Live.

And of course, there's Andrea Mitchell from NBC News. After Senator John McCain gave his best performance at the Saddleback Forum, Mitchell questioned the appropriateness of his performance. In which she stated that:

"McCain may have [cheated] the forum"!

McCain is not appreciating his "base" covering him negatively, and he's taking the marbles and going home. Obama is putting gasoline on a fire with his appearance on The O'Reilly Factor, and making sure that disappointments are bound to happen. What do you think this?

You think that McCain should alienate CNN and MSNBC?

You think that Obama should continue to appear on Fox News?

You think that media watchdogs groups such as the Media Matters for America and Media Research Center, do a part to control "the out of control [for ratings]" partisan media?

Thanks Robert Greenwald and Fox Attacks for the standing up against the corporate owned media!

Marie Brenner visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss her book "Apples and Oranges: My Brother and Me, Lost and Found." This event took place on June 26, 2008, as part of the Authors@Google series.

Marie Brenner's brother, Carl--yin to her yang, red state to her blue state--lived in Texas and in the apple country of Washington state, cultivating his orchards, polishing his guns, and attending church, while Marie, a world-class journalist and bestselling author, led a sophisticated life among the "New York libs" her brother loathed.

After many years apart, a medical crisis pushed them back into each other's lives. Marie temporarily abandoned her job at Vanity Fair magazine, her friends, and her husband to try to help her brother. Except that Carl fought her every step of the way. "I told you to stay away from the apple country," he barked when she showed up. And, "Don't tell anyone out here you're from New York City. They'll get the wrong idea."

Marie Brenner is Writer at Large for Vanity Fair. Her exposé of the tobacco industry, "The Man Who Knew Too Much," was the basis for the 1999 movie The Insider. She is also the author of the bestselling House of Dreams: The Bingham Family of Louisville.

It has emerged that the Bush administration caught off-guard by the rise of Hamas, embarked on a secret plan to overthrow its democratically-elected government.

The magazine Vanity Fair reports in its April edition that President Bush and Condoleeza Rice, the US secretary of state, signed off on a plan for Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, to quash the Hamas authorities.

The plan involved Washington's allies in the region channeling arms and cash to Fatah fighters, who would rise up against Hamas.

But the plan backfired spectacularly, with Hamas apparently anticipating the move and taking over in Gaza.

How and why did Washington fail in its aims? What were its true motives, and where will its policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict head now?

Sami Zeidan of Inside Story investigates.

This is a really interesting piece that can be found in Vanity Fair, written by a talented jouralist and old friend of mine named Austin Merrill.

Austin was imbedded with U.S. forces trying to train the soldiers in Mali in counter-insurgency techniques and other methods for combating extremists in their midst. But are we winning "hearts and minds" or potentially causing blowback (see Osama bin Laden and Afghanistan, 1970s) by angering some and training others who might eventually be our sworn enemies? That is the real question. I found this part, which I am going to quote at length, particularly striking:

The captain in Timbuktu echoes McRaven's sentiment as we discuss the shooting-range and medical-assistance operations. "Both days were the war on terrorism," the captain says. "But the humanitarian-assistance part is more effective. It prevents terrorism just as much as training the Malian army. Because people are going to listen-nobody cares about what you know until they know you care."

But not everyone is convinced that having soldiers leading humanitarian missions is a good idea. "Mali is one of-I'll say 'unfortunately' in quotes-many places where the military is doing this kind of work," a high-ranking official at the United States Agency for International Development (usaid) tells me. "I say unfortunately not because they're not trying to do a good job, but because that's not what they've been trained to do. They don't know anything about development, but it's important for them to do it in order to win the hearts and minds of the local population.

"They're only now realizing," the official continues, "that there's more to development work than just handing out candy or rebuilding schools. And they're asking us to help them do a better job. The cost is that the military is going to do development better and they're effectively going to take our jobs. But the fact of the matter is, the military is huge. We don't have the human resources to take it all on. So we're trying to marry up our resources to reach a joint understanding of what the problems are in these regions. We have to use it as an asset."

Others believe the concerns are more complicated than a simple development-versus-military tug of war. "We have to be smart and nuanced and extremely aware of each country's political context as we proceed," says Michelle Gavin, a sub-Saharan-Africa expert at the Council on Foreign Relations and a former foreign-policy adviser for Senator Russ Feingold. "We don't want to find ourselves being duped into doing the bidding of foreign governments when their mission has nothing to do with counterterrorism. We have to proceed the way it was initially laid out, with military, diplomatic, and development elements-a cohesive package to make clear that we are there to help and can compete with these radical elements. Over the long term, we need that comprehensive approach. eucom's efforts are absolutely vital, but it can't be the sole ingredient to counterterror in that part of the world."

Another concern for many is that American troops might be repeating military mistakes of the past by training armed groups that will some day turn their weapons against U.S. interests, as in the case of the C.I.A.-funded-and-trained mujahideen in Afghanistan in the late 1970s and 1980s.
