I think, uh, and again without any presumption that Im gonna be the nominee because I, I, Im not, Im just saying this as a general rule. I think nowadays in picking a vice president, you have to pick somebody whos ready and able to serve as president on a moments notice because we never know whats going to happen. Thats always been true, we just know that now better. That you-, you dont know whats gonna happen. And a vice president has to be a partner in the administration, vice president has to know everything thats going on just in case a vice president has to step in at a moments notice. On the morning of September 11th 2001, I was waiting for a phone call from Vice President Cheney when the first of the two towers came down. And the phone call was interrupted by the building coming down and hitting the building we were in. And I had just been told they were evacuating, or they were doing something at the White House, it sounded like they were evacuating it. And when I heard that Vice President Cheney was going to call me back , and I was waiting on the line with the White House secretary for him, I had a sense that he knew what he was doing. Well, who knows whats going to happen over the next four to eight years? He is also the Wayne & Marcia Buske Distinguished Fellow in History, Hillsdale College, where he teaches each fall courses in military history and classical culture.</p> <p>He was a full-time farmer before joining CSU Fresno, in 1984 to initiate a classics program. In 1991, he was awarded an American Philological Association Excellence in Teaching Award, which is given yearly to the country's top undergraduate teachers of Greek and Latin.</p> <p>Hanson has written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, International Herald Tribune, New York Post, National Review, Washington Times, Commentary, The New Republic, Claremont Review of Books, American Heritage, Policy Review, Wilson Quarterly, Weekly Standard, Daily Telegraph, and has been interviewed often on National Public Radio, PBS Newshour, the Hugh Hewitt Show, and C-Span's BookTV. He serves on the editorial board of Arion, the Military History Quarterly, and City Journal.</p> <p>Since 2001, has written a weekly column for National Review Online, and in 2004, began his syndicated column for Tribune Media Services.
