In the first part of this article, I explained some of the most common phrases associated with Web 2.0. Here are some more explanations that should help you cut through the jargon.

Read/Write Web

The internet is no longer a place where users simply view content. Web 2.0 means that users can contribute and publish all kinds of content, thus the read/write web.

RSS

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a web content syndication format that allows you to publish and distribute web content. RSS feeds allow updates to be delivered to subscribed users' desktops.

Social Networking

This generally refers to activities on Web 2.0 websites such as MySpace and FaceBook. These websites allow you to connect and communicate with new and existing friends and colleagues, share information, join groups and more.

There's no doubt, web users are expecting more from websites. You must stand out. If you want to stand out, you need to start thinking beyond the norm. If everyone's doing it, everyone's the same. With the development of Web 2.0 technology and cheaper audio and video software, it's now cheap and easy to add sound and video to your site.

In this article I focus on audio only. You have a number of choices when adding website audio. You could find an affiliate radio station and stream it to your website; or you could add a playlist of music you think visitors to your website will like; or you can create your own content.

The best, and most unique, way to catch visitors' attention is to create your own content. Start by exploring your competition. Are they adding interactive content? If so, how often do they update? Is the content informative or is it content disguised as a pitch?

If you want to get famous, or at least viral, focus on content for content's sake. Resist the tempation to sell. You need to establish credibility before you try to lead visitors into your sales cycle. Who wants to listen to commercials? Nobody. Don't make your content into a commercial. In general, the most popular audio content is humorous, informative, or contrarian.

It's every internet marketer's dream to produce a web video that hits viral overdrive. But, there's more than just making and submitting a video. In this article I take a look at some of the factors that can help make a web video go viral.

A viral event happens when a product receives publicity naturally through online word-of- mouth. But, there's a difference between viral and word-of-mouth. Viral is exponential; a user will tell 5 to 10 others and each one of those users will tell 5 to 10 more. Word-of-mouth is simply telling 5 to 10 others who may or may not pass the information on—a much slower process.

For a business, the time factor is even more critical. That's why social media sites and your web videos can combine into a powerful marketing duo.

Social media websites like FaceBook and Digg, and video sites like YouTube fuels the viral movement. Web videos in particular can gain massive popularity and be viewed by millions of users in a short period of time.

Below are a few basic techniques to help you create your own viral web videos.

Video marketing is a relatively new trend in the area of ever-changing, innovative marketing strategies. It's at the intersection of digital video and traditional internet marketing strategies.

Video marketing cannot and does not replace or substitute existing internet marketing strategies — strategies like affiliate marketing, article marketing or pay-per-click campaigns. However, it adds great value and can significantly leverage these existing marketing techniques.

Traditional internet marketing, or Web 1.0 marketing, involved product and service marketing through static interaction, primarily text based web pages. "Brochure-ware" pages were just an extension of the traditional advertising model. Web 2.0 has turned this concept on its head. Potential customers are no longer restricted to reading static text about products and services. In other words, potential customers can interact with you—and the content you publish.

Enter video marketing, which plugs video into the interaction — giving Web 2.0 a whole new dimension. Despite the social characteristic of web 2.0, it still lacked the all important face to face interaction. This is where video marketing comes in. It allows you to blend your message and personality into the consumer's online experience, influencing the consumer in their buying decisions.

Word-of-mouth marketing has become one of the most exciting marketing opportunities on the web. The Web 2.0 revolution has allowed web users the ability to reach across the globe to voice their opinions, connect with like minded users, and vote on the best content.

Users like good content. In fact, they want good content. Therefore, you can quickly gain buzz if you can reach above the crowd and make yourself stand out with good content.

Below is a quick overview of some of the tools available to generate buzz in the social media sphere.

Social Networking Sites

Social networking and bookmarking websites have taken the internet world by storm in the past few years. Sites like FaceBook, MySpace and Digg are now among the most visited in the world and opportunities are emerging for smart and creative marketers.

Rating Sites

If you have a good product, especially software, you can submit it to a rating site. Editors of these sites can rate and recommend your product to other visitors.

Managing Blog Comments

What makes blogging so different about traditional publishing platforms is that it allows visitor interaction - interaction between the blog owner and the visitors as well as interaction amongst visitors.

As a blog owner, you can exert a specific amount of influence on the conversation but you can't control it entirely. Visitors are free to post their feedback and opinions - good or bad.

While you hope everyone agrees with your content, very often visitors will use your blog as a platform for venting their frustration. This can sometimes be a distinct disadvantage to you as a blogger.

Creating original and interesting content is hard enough. Dealing with the responses to that content is another matter altogether.

Web 2.0 technology has opened up a number of new ways for businesses to market their products and services. The beauty of Web 2.0 is that many of these promotion techniques are absolutely free.

If you own a new business, especially a web-based business, you may not have much of an advertising budget. In fact, you may not have any budget at all. That's great! With Web 2.0 promotion, all you need is time and your creativity.

Web 2.0 promotions will not give you immediate results. Only a sustained effort will increase your customer base. Here are four of the most common Web 2.0 promotion methods:

In recent years, the internet has evolved from something that users simply read, to a collaborative environment where users can actively shape web content and drive trends.

This new online environment generally comes under the term Web 2.0, although an exact definition of the term has never quite been agreed upon.

The new collaborative web means that everyone can now create their own web content through social networking websites and media sharing sites such as YouTube and Flickr. This new technology also means that content isn't just limited to writing. Video, audio, and animations are all widely used in the collaborative internet.

While the most popular collaborative websites are user driven, online marketers are increasingly finding ways to increase exposure to their products in the Web 2.0 environment.

You can't talk about Web 2.0 without talking about viral marketing. Viral marketing is the most powerful element of Web 2.0 marketing.

Basically, viral marketing refers to the marketing of a product naturally by word-of- mouth on internet communities such as social media websites. But viral marketing is much more than word-of-mouth marketing. Viral marketing can spread much more quickly and reach way more people than word-of-mouth can.

There are two stages to viral internet marketing. The first stage is content generation. This is the most difficult and time-consuming stage, as it should be. There's one thing web users loathe...boredom. Mass media advertising has numbed us to most information online. Trust is earned only by proving that you have something important, informative, or funny to say.

Once you've decided on your content, you'll have to expose it. There are several methods to expose your content and generate initial interest. First, your content should be found on the most popular Web 2.0 sites—YouTube if applicable, Digg, Reddit, FaceBook, MySpace.

Getting your blog into Google's top 10 results can leverage your business and increase your traffic greatly. Whatever the purpose for your blog, getting ad clicks, selling affiliate products, or generating traffic to your sales page, a blog owner's ultimate goal is to brand himself while making a profit—easier said than done.

The good news is that getting into Google's top spots can be accomplished with a little creativity and effort. The following are five ways you can get your blog onto Google's first page and watch your traffic surge.

Write Original Content

Original, informative, and authentic content rules in the Web 2.0 marketing world. While you don't have to post everyday, you need to post a minimum of three times a week. Personal studies have shown that traffic tends to drop off considerably if posting occurs less than three times a week. You also have to maintain a steady flow of content for the search engines. A steady flow of content shows that you're interested enough in your topic to keep it alive.

The Web is moving towards authentic, two-way based conversations. Add humor to your posts. Give your content a twist and personality. One of the best ways to make your content come alive is to include a few real-life scenarios. Your readers will appreciate your honesty.

This brings up a good point about content which is "SEOed". If you're writing about a topic you enjoy, you're adding a dash of your personality, and you're not concerned about keyword density, then you're doing it correctly. So, what does that mean? Be normal. If you're thinking about keyword density while you're writing, you're going to sound like Frankenstein.

So, I'm busting the keyword density myth. Write like a human and you'll be rewarded.

You can no longer use the excuse that setting up a blog is too hard. Plenty of blogging software is available easily, and mostly free, taking the guesswork out of blog-building.

Today, assembling a blog is simple. What's even more important, and much harder, is marketing your blog. To be successful, you must strengthen your marketing ability.

You might be able to entice visitors to your website initially, but how will you keep them coming back for more. Successful blog marketing helps you get higher search engine rankings, gain valuable links and increase the traffic to your site.

Use to following tips to get your blog on the right marketing track.

Tip #1- RSS Your Blog

Just because your blog is live, don't assume visitors know about it. Imagine your blog is a nice sized chalk board sitting in your basement. How do you get it out of the basement and onto the sidewalk? That's where RSS feeds come into play. RSS simply allows others to syndicate content from your blog to their blog or website. Using RSS feeds to promote your blog is an effective way to get your content noticed.

Setting up and maintaining a web site is now standard practice for small to mid-sized businesses looking to establish their online presence and increase sales.

However, as content generation and management began to take on a life of it's own, businesses had to adopt for efficient online communications.

Enter blogging; a cheap yet more effective way of communicating with customers and getting new business. A cross between a newsletter and a press conference, a blog is essentially an online content management system that provides relevant news and information using a streamlined publishing process.

Not only that; blogs are also a great way of linking your customers to other relevant sites including other areas of your primary business. Blogs are versatile—news, views, and fresh content can be accompanied by videos, audio clips and photographs. And for the business owner who is constantly on the go, blogs can be updated anytime and anywhere. No need to wait for the tech guy to update or add content.

Blogs, in essence, represent an opportunity to reach out to local as well as global customers any time. For customers, blogs represent an excellent platform for researching the latest product offerings as well as to voice concerns about a product they've already bought.

Ma.gnolia is a powerful website traffic driver. Once someone bookmarks your page on a social site like Ma.gnolia, the likelihood of that person coming back is much higher than a typical browser bookmark.

Even the best search engines can't deliver exact results. While most search engines can give you a good starting point, they can only give you a best guess.

With Ma.gnolia and other social bookmarking websites, members save websites as bookmarks, just like a browser bookmark only with a twist. Users also "tag" bookmarks. What is tagging? It's assigning labels, or keywords, to bookmarks that make them easy to be found again and shared with other people.

When searching Ma.gnolia, visitors click tags that other people have chosen and look at the websites other people think are worth saving. It's basically a human organized bookmark collection that's as easy to use as a search engine.

The Web 2.0 revolution has presented a number of new ways to market your products and services—few more effective than the simple blog.

Basically, a blog is an online journal that is updated regularly. A blog can be on any subject, and, since they are cheap to set up and run, it is not surprising that the net is cluttered with them. Setting up a blog is easy. Breaking through the mess of blogs already in existence is harder.

If you already have a business, you should certainly consider setting up a blog that is affiliated with your existing website.

You can write about your products, related industry news, voice opinions and even post video, audio and images. However, be sure that your blog isn't just a glorified ad. Make sure your content is relevant, interesting and well written. If you can attract visitors who are genuinely interested in what you have to say, your blog marketing experiment will be successful.

As the true possibilities offered by Web 2.0 advertising and marketing become apparent, advertisers are transforming the way they view and interact with consumers.

Just a couple of years ago, advertising professionals relied on television, billboards and print media to carry their message. While they had a certain amount of control over who their message reached by targeting certain publications or television time slots, messages were too general. And often missed their intended audience.

However, the internet and Web 2.0 advertising has changed that. Advertisers can now target specific groups — knowing their chances of reaching the right audience are increased. In fact, the advertising opportunities presented by Web 2.0 are only just beginning.

Web 2.0 has revolutionized the way online advertising is happening. Now, instead of spending a large budget on blanket advertising techniques, advertisers can target specific audiences while cutting costs, connecting with customers and improving the chances of getting a sale.

Pay per click (PPC) remains one of the most effective — time and cost wise — ways of advertising on the internet. Your best option is still Google Adwords. How does Adwords relate to Web 2.0? With Adwords, you can target specific sites where your ads will run. All you have to do is research which social networking sites or blogs you want your ads to run on. Many major blogs and social networking sites syndicate Adwords ads. Just make sure you target the right audience.

Internet advertising revenues have risen dramatically in the past year as advertisers have begun to recognize the potential of Web 2.0. However, many pundits see another internet bubble looming. Could this happen again or has the new internet crowd learned its lesson?

Although it's impossible to know for sure, all signs are pointing to dramatic increases in online advertising revenues in the next five years.

However, web developers, entrepreneurs, and advertisers have proceeded more cautiously this time. The resilience of the web as a viable advertising medium has revealed itself in the fact that revenue has been growing steadily since 2002, despite economic and geo-political uncertainties.

Now, Web 2.0 has caused that steady growth to accelerate significantly. Web 2.0 has transformed the way advertisers are viewing the internet.

Web 2.0 advertising can do many things, but not everything. It's important to sort out the differences in order to get a clear direction and manage expectations. When you believe that web 2.0 advertising can do something that it really can't, you're setting yourself up for disappointment as well as possible business failure.

At the same time, when you fail to realize all that it can do, you're selling yourself short on your future advertising campaigns. Below are five areas in which Web 2.0 advertising can help you solve your online advertising problems.

There was a time when advertising on a website consisted of having a banner designed and paying a website to display it. However, with Web 2.0, all of this has changed. In this article, I examine some of the advertising alternatives available.

Advertising on social networking websites such as FaceBook or MySpace allows advertisers to target potential customers effectively, but the way in which the ads appear remains fairly traditional. In most cases, ads appear as banners or smaller button ads. One more innovative approach that FaceBook uses is to pay to have ads included in a user's news feed. News feed ads are more subtle since they don't immediately look like advertising.

However, other social networking sites are coming up with more innovative advertising ideas. Many of these ideas are in their infancy and may prove to be effective at least in the short term.

When the late 1990s dotcom bubble finally burst, many people were left scratching their heads wondering if the internet was really a viable profit channel. Website developers sought work in different fields and advertisers turned away from the internet as a promising advertising medium.

But less than a decade later, things have changes. After the slump in internet advertising the last five years, spending has steadily been on the increase. In fact, internet advertising revenues are rising at astronomical rates.
