How Electronic Voting Machines Could Steal Our Democracy

Did you know the hardware and software used in electronic voting machines (DREs) is considered proprietary and cannot be inspected by outside experts? That means that a small number of people could easily program DREs to flip votes, and the evidence of this crime would be safely locked inside the machines, with no way that anyone (except for the manufacturers) to know with 100% certainty that votes were accurately counted, or even if they were counted at all. And paper trails are only useful if they are actually counted. They often aren’t.

As Josef Stalin (allegedly) said, "It's not the people who vote that count. It's the people who count the votes."

This is potentially a democracy nightmare, where private companies are allowed to count the votes with absolutely zero transparency or accountability. We might as well have the vote count done at Guantanamo Bay by Blackwater.

But there are a few patriots out there who are ceaselessly fighting to expose this potential crisis. One is Clint Curtis, a software developer turned whistleblower who was asked in 2000 to write vote hacking software to be used in DREs. Another is Brad Friedman, a tireless investigative blogger and creator of Bradblog.com, an excellent clearinghouse for election fraud information. Both are featured in the excellent, terrifying documentary Murder, Spies & Voting Lies: the Clint Curtis Story. America’s corporate media has done a woeful, shameful job reporting this issue that goes to the very heart of our democracy and our identity and reputation as a free nation. A few nights ago, a major channel finally did a long, in-depth story about election fraud, featuring interviews with Curtis and Friedman. The channel? Al-Jazeera English. Cavuto Tries To Tie Licensing Illegals To Voter Fraud

This is actually kind of funny. A Maryland Republican state Senator is on Fox "News" to discuss the governor's decision to grant illegal aliens driver's licenses. The Senator plays his role perfectly lambasting the plan and repeatedly calling Democrats "Democrat".

However, when Cavuto tries to link this licensing to illegals illegally voting, the Senator fails to follow his lead and states that that "it wouldn't make sense for them to do so".

Five years after passage of a federal law to create electronic registration databases to deter voter fraud, the new technology is posing hurdles that could disenfranchise thousands of legal voters, a USA TODAY examination finds.
From Florida to Washington, voters have been challenged because names or numbers on their registration forms did not exactly match other government databases, such as Social Security and motor vehicle agencies. "We know that eligible people have been thrown off the rolls," says Justin Levitt, a lawyer with the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law.

Elections are when, again? Tomorrow? That should allow plenty of time to reconcile this minor little glitch, because, see, all they needed was 5 years and one day.

A day before voters begin choosing the next president, there are signs of database troubles. In Wisconsin, Elections Board Executive Director Kevin Kennedy says, "the users keep complaining that it's too complex." In Texas, Henderson County opted out of the database after voters griped about being dropped from the list. "I was just afraid to trust it," says voter registrar Milburn Chaney.

Saving the worst for last, guess which state is having the most trouble? Did you say Florida? Dingdingding! You win!

Perhaps the worst problems are in Florida, where a Gannett News Service analysis found more than 14,000 people whose voter registrations were disputed by the state because they didn't match other databases; about 75% are minorities. A federal district court ruled last month that the state couldn't deny registrations based on database matching.

Don't worry, everyone. There's more than one way to disenfranchise a minority voter. Meantime, Dems? You might want to think about coming out in droves so that there are landslide wins.

Five years. It's been five years and nothing's changed.

Texas GOP Leader Claims To Want To Stop Voter Fraud - While Committing It Herself

Yup, State Rep. Debbie Riddle (R-Hypocrisy) is up in arms trying to stop minorities and poorer people from voting using the modern-day equivalents of the Grandfather Clause and Poll Tax.

She wants to make a criminal of out anyone without a photo ID who chooses to vote, or any individual attempting to legally take a ballot to the proper polling place for someone who cannot physically get there.

That, however, does not stop Riddle from casting votes for other state legislators, even though this practice is explicitly forbidden by the state house rules adopted by Our Fair Lady Of The GOP and her fellow legislators.

Enjoy her whining about how they don't have "bathroom breaks" and sometimes have to "work through lunch and dinner," because the challenges a voter in a poor neighborhood faces--perhaps taking public transportation during their lunch hour from one of their two jobs to their polling place and risking getting fired, to wait in line for three hours and vote--well, that's child's play.

Make 'em bring a stool sample and retina scan too! Only if black, brown or otherwise Democratically inclined, of course.

You mean the Party of Larry Craig, David Vitter and Duke Cunningham is full of hypocrites!?! Yeah, I just don't believe it either...
