When the online storytelling magazine SMITH asked readers to submit six-word memoirs, they proved a whole, real life can be told this way too. From small sagas of bittersweet romance ("Found true love, married someone else") to proud achievements and stinging regrets ("After Harvard, had baby with crackhead"), these terse true tales relate the diversity of human experience in tasty bite-sized pieces. From authors Jonathan Lethem and Richard Ford to comedians Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris, to ordinary folks around the world, everyone has a six-word story to tell.

Larry Smith founded SMITH Magazine on January 6, 2006, which was already National Smith Day. Most recently, he was the articles editor of Men's Journal, and has been the executive editor of Yahoo! Internet Life, senior editor at ESPN magazine, and a founding editor of P.O.V. and Might magazines. Rachel Fershleiser has written for The Village Voice, New York Press, Print, and other publications. She's SMITH's memoir editor and lives in New York City.

Steve Gill: I've seen videotapes and listened to audio where you deny any willingness to embrace the 9/11 conspiracy stuff. A lot of your supporters do seem to embrace the whole 9/11 conspiracy that the towers were brought down by the Bush administration. Address that. Do you think the American government, the U.S. government, had anything to do with bringing those towers down either directly or allowing it to happen?

Ron Paul: I think indirectly out of ineptness rather than participating in it, planning it or allowing it to happen. I see it's ineptness - that's why I think the investigations are always coverup of the inefficiency of government.

Steve Gill: In fact you had folks on the 9/11 Commission who made some of the decisions and they were on the commission there to cover themselves up.

Ron Paul: Yeah, that's the whole thing, that's why I don't trust the investigations. But you know, the neocons were very explicit even before 9/11 that it would be an advantage if they had a Pearl Harbor type of an event where they could move their foreign policy along and use that as an excuse. That doesn't mean there's evidence that they planned it. You know, I don't think you can go from one step to the other. But if certain events occur, they can make good use of it. And I think that's what they've done because there's tremendous evidence that there had been plans laid for almost ten years before that to go in and have regime change in Iraq.
