Sam's new album, "Free" (he has done eight CDs), bows this week, and he will be hosting a new daily talk show on Lifetime. A veteran from "Star Search," Sam has toured the world, and now YouTube loves him. See him at Birdland from July 30-Aug. 2.

Complete video at: fora.tv

Bestselling Author Salman Rushdie discusses what he feels is a lack of great literature or other creative works about September 11, 2001.

-----

Born in Mumbai, India, Salman Rushdie is an outspoken novelist. After a decade working as an ad copywriter, Rushdie had a breakthrough with the publication of his second book, Midnight's Children. The book received critical acclaim and was awarded the Booker Prize in 1981.

His latest novel, The Enchantress of Florence, about a bewitching Moghul princess and her Florentine exploits with such historical characters as Machiavelli, is due out this June - City Arts & Lectures

Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie is an Indian-British novelist and essayist. He first achieved fame with his second novel, Midnight's Children (1981), which won the Booker Prize.Much of his early fiction is set at least partly on the Indian subcontinent. His style is often classified as magical realism, while a dominant theme of his work is the story of the many connections, disruptions, and migrations between the Eastern and Western worlds.

His fourth novel, The Satanic Verses (1988), led to protests from Muslims in several countries, some of which were violent. Faced with death threats and a fatwā (religious edict) issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, then Supreme Leader of Iran, which called for him to be killed, he spent nearly a decade largely underground, appearing in public only sporadically.

In June 2007, Rushdie was appointed a Knight Bachelor for services to literature. In 2007, he began a five-year term as distinguished writer in residence at Emory University.

Former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins discusses stealing material from other writers, and reads his poem, "Litany."

-----

Poet Billy Collins is a unique literary figure - a widely read contemporary poet. The former US Poet Laureate and New York State Poet has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation, though his most dramatic honors come from a wide and appreciative readership. Billy Collins has been a professor of English at Lehman College of the City University of New York since 1968 - City Arts & Lectures

He is also a distinguished professor of English at Lehman College (CUNY). Collins served as US Poet Laureate (2001-2003) and as New York State Poet Laureate (2004-2006). Collins' poetry has appeared in The American Poetry Review, Harper's, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic, among many other journals and periodicals.
Acclaimed author Tobias Wolff reads an excerpt from his short story, "The Benefit of the Doubt."

-----

Tobias Wolff is a contemporary master of short fiction, conjuring a full emotional range within the form's compression. His widely-anthologized stories have received three O. Henry Awards and are collected in Back in the World, In the Garden of the North American Martyrs, The Night in Question, and the recent Our Story Begins.

The protagonists of Wolff's short stories often struggle with moral quandaries, unable to reconcile what they know to be true with what they feel to be true. Wolff explores similarly existential themes in his childhood memoir This Boy's Life and In Pharoah's Army, the story of his reluctant Vietnam service.

While he is best known for his short stories and memoirs, Wolff is also the author of the PEN/Faulkner award-winning novella The Barracks Thief and novels including Old School. He currently teaches creative writing at Stanford University - City Arts and Lectures

Tobias Wolff is the Ward W. and Priscilla B. Woods Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University, where he directed the creative writing program from 2000 to 2002.

His books include a novel, The Barracks Thief; two memoirs, This Boy's Life and In Pharaoh's Army; and three collections of short stories, most recently The Night in Question. He has also edited several collections of short stories.

His work appears regularly in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper's, and other magazines and literary journals. Among his special interests are American literature, the development of the short story, autobiography, and Chekhov.

The study of sexual physiology--what happens, and why, and how to make it happen better--has been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinsey's attic.
Mary Roach, "the funniest science writer in the country," devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. Can a person think herself to orgasm? Can a dead man get an erection? Is vaginal orgasm a myth? Why doesn't Viagra help women--or, for that matter, pandas? In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm, two of the most complex, delightful, and amazing scientific phenomena on earth, can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.
Mary Roach is the author of Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers and Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife.

This event took place on April 18, 2008, as a part of the Authors@Google series.

"The Songwriter"

COMING SOON!!!!!!
The Book "Stolen Treasures"
"I was on the bus stop when I first heard my song "Somebody Sleeping In My Bed" which, I wrote concerning Mark Gordon's girlfriend, Beverly Miller (Theo Miller's sister) I met Beverly, when Mark ask me to write a song for her...We, became friends...There is a very unique story behind this song, but you have to read the book to get the details...This song, in my opinion was one of Dru Hill's biggest Hits... Mark, managed a group entitled Two Plus Two...I penned songs 4 them, which was somewhat in the NEw Edition style if you will... The Artist like Chris Brown ended up with one of those songs...Monica ended up with one of the songs...Baby Face ended up with one of my songs...
Tevin Campbell recorded one of my songs under the production of Quincy Jones...Every writer has a unique musical DNA...and every song I have written has the same Beautiful Melodys running through them...Many of my songs had what some would say multiple hooks and bridges throughout...And the theifs didn't have to do to much to make them work...

In 1986 I penned a song entitled "Somebody Sleeping In MY Bed" That song, along with many others were stolen...
Mark Gordon, former manager of QD3, who was also my manager at the time, is one of the key people involved in the theft of my intellectual property...Theodore Miller, who worked on projects with QD3, including, "The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" is one of the individuals involved in the theft of my intellectual property... I know for a fact Theodore Miller used my music to create for the "Prince of Bel Air" During that time I actually lived with Theodore Miller...Many of my applications for copyrights his old address on them. That same year I submitted a BMI application for which I never received a Clearance Form for the song "Somebodys Sleeping In My Bed" Produced by Daryl Simmons For Silent Partners Production...Hmm...The Copyright Office Can't produce a copy of my deposit with the song included on the cassette that I submitted with my application...BMI reppresentative at the time said they rejected my application, because someone had a song with that same title...There is only one person who had the kind of Power and Influence to make this happen, and it wasn't QD3... J'son Tyree was also one of the artist that I penned songs for, on their behalf...He eventually ended up with Hollywood Records...Many of the songs they stolen from me went platinum...My story of songs will take you to the door of Jungle Records, inside the studio of the one and only Ouincy Jones, who was one of my heros...take you to the front door of QD3 and to the streets of Skid Road...All the way to Washington DC to Congresswoman Maxine Waters desk and the Copyright Office...There is a trail that will lead me to Warner Brothers, where I would end up getting cursed out by my homeboy Howard Hewett, via telephone...Somebody, I really admired and looked up to...There are so many stories within this Story...

This is a Songwriters Story...a story of betrayal and hardship...A story of being despised and rejected...but also, a story of triumph!!! They hated me because of my gift...There were no Klu KLux KLansman, There was no Jim Crow working here...There were no White men doing injustice here...I was greeted by natives in the JUNGLE.... And these natives were BLACK.

I was in the midst of these individuals and thought I was part of the mix...I was played, and didn't even know...I was still waiting for a meeting with Mark, and they had already connected...They had already purchased houses and were riding high, while I was still on the bus stop... In my opinion, it was criminal and vicious...I ask Mark what he could work out for me...He said, "I just don't know how to market you"...In the background I could hear the track of Mr. X, with my melodies running all through it...
They would shoot his video that day in the jungle, ending it with a pool side shoot at QD3's...Where Mark had a special role for me, to stand at the front door...I guess I was the spook who stood by QD3's door... I think it is a sad commentary, because we could have accomplished much more working together... THey chose to rip me off...

I came out to Cali with a dream to become this successful songwriter and my treasures ended up in the chests of others...There are folks out there who have received awards that really belong to me...that are receiving royalties from songs which belong to me...While I struggle everyday, living from hand to mouth, and yet I have the gift to write and do many things...But ain't nobody dealing with me...They didn't only screw over me, they BlackBalled me so I wouldn't Get In the BUsiness...and Clowned me in their Sitcoms...LOL...Statue of Limitations...

COMING SOON! "STOLEN TREASURES"

Surprise Musical Number from a Vlog Person! ...

HELLO VLOG PEOPLE (SAM'S SONG)
Words and Music by Judy Kaufman

Hello, hello, Vlog People, hello!
I've got some goodies,
that you'll want to know.
Like how to mince garlic,
while taping my show,
or carving a turkey,
while singing "I Got a Crow"
Well, hello!

Hello, hello, well, isn't it keen
I've been invited to sing for the Queen
Well, don't get too thrilled,
it's Latifa, I mean
Well, hello!

I'm busy lunching,
and endlessly munching
at meetings all day until five.
Eating my way up the Hollywood mountain,
and hope that I come back alive!

Hello, "Ask Sam", more questions from you;
"My Husband's cheating,
so what can I do"? ...
"My Mom's ignoring me,
what can I say"? ...
"... I just found out that
My Father is gay"! ...
"What to do"?
I give advice, and I try to be nice
'cause I'm no Dr. Laura, you see.
But as soon as the cameras
start ticking away,
I much rather talk about ME!

All that I do, is exciting and fun,
I know famous people galore.
Tons of celebrities call me their friend,
but I want more! I want MORE!

I'm multi-talented,
Danny's amazing!
Our home is a garden of Eden.
Summing it up philosophically,
our life is fantastically FRIEDEN!

Hello, hello, but before I go,
Do something nice for somebody you know!
... or somebody you see!
... preferably ... ME!

"On the Road: The 50th Anniversary," featuring Robert Mailer Anderson, Eddie Muller and Tom Barbash.

Join Bay Area novelist Robert Mailer Anderson as he leads a celebration of Jack Kerouac's famous novel "On the Road: 50th Anniversary Edition." Kerouac's book was first published in 1957, and it has come to epitomize the spirit and ideas of the Beat Generation, which had its origins in San Francisco.
Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist Dave Barry identifies what is, in his words, a common "theme" running throughout his career.

-----

Dave Barry discusses "Dave Barry's History of the Millennium (So Far)."

So much has happened in our aughts already, it is imperative that we take a moment to review Dave Barry's year-by-year history of the millennium. He has, with great insight and courage, taken the time to record these turbulent times. For those with "outrage overload," this is a chance to laugh at it all - Politics and Prose

Dave Barry is a humor columnist. For 25 years he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. In 1988 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Many people are still trying to figure out how this happened.

Dave has also written a total of 30 books, although virtually none of them contain useful information. Two of his books were used as the basis for the CBS TV sitcom "Dave's World," in which Harry Anderson played a much taller version of Dave.

Dave plays lead guitar in a literary rock band called the Rock Bottom Remainders, whose other members include Stephen King, Amy Tan, Ridley Pearson and Mitch Albom. They are not musically skilled, but they are extremely loud. Dave has also made many TV appearances, including one on the David Letterman show where he proved that it is possible to set fire to a pair of men's underpants with a Barbie doll. - Dave Barry Official Website
