<p>Yemen's Army Captures Rebel Camp, Kills 19 Insurgents, AFP Says
<br />May 5 (Bloomberg) -- Yemen's army captured a military camp held by Islamic rebels for the past three months, killing 19 insurgents, Agence France-Presse reported. </p>
<p>The fighting took place in the village of Dafaa, in the northwestern district of Haydan, AFP said, citing an unidentified local government official. Soldiers entered the camp after the fighting, AFP reported. </p>
<p>Shiite Muslim rebels, led by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, are fighting to restore a Shiite administration in the region, AFP said. The government has accused them of seeking to impose Islamic law in the country that lies on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. </p>
<p>The government blamed rebels for bombing a mosque in the disputed region on May 2, killing 18 people, most of them soldiers, the news agency reported. The rebels denied the allegation. Clashes two days ago at Munbah killed 10 people, according to the report.</p>

<p>Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra reports from the refugee camps of Yemen on the people fleeing the fighting in Somalia.</p>
<p>Last year more than 100,000 people made the perilous journey across the Gulf of Aden to Yemen in order to flee the fighting in Somalia - according to the figures given by the 'Yemen Observer'. </p>
<p>This year 32,000 others have joined them in order to escape too. However it is estimated that one in 20 did not survive the trip.</p>
<p>Amnesty International issued a warning in a new report that 90,000 children could die in Somalia in the coming months.</p>

<p>Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra reports on the government troops reported to have clashed with Shia fighters in northern Yemen, hours after a mosque was bombed.</p>
<p>Funerals are being held for the 18 worshippers killed, who included soldiers from a nearby barracks.</p>
<p>The attack in Sa'ada adds to the thousands already killed in a four year conflict. It also throws into a doubt a peace deal revived earlier this year.</p>

<p><blockquote><p><strong>Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold</strong><br /><em>On Reports of Suspected USS Cole Bomber Jamal al-Badawi Being Released from Custody in Yemen</em> <br /><em>Washington DC - In response to media reports that Jamal al-Badawi, the suspected mastermind behind the attack on the USS Cole in 2000, was released from custody in Yemen, Senator Russ Feingold released the following statement: </em><br /><br />"I am deeply troubled by reports of the release of Jamal al-Badawi, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the attack on the USS Cole in 2000, in which 17 Americans were killed. The Yemeni government's reported decision to release him - after two jail escapes - is completely unacceptable. If the reports are accurate, the administration needs to explain whether it was aware and approved of the release of al-Badawi, and the President should explain what he will do to ensure that this terrorist is brought to justice. I also hope candidates for President will commit to refocusing our national security where it belongs, on combating al-Badawi and others in al Qaeda and associated terrorist groups." </p></blockquote><p>So let me get this straight. These "tough guy" cowboys first decided not to bother retaliating for the Cole and now are blithely ignoring the fact that the mastermind of that operation is being released from prison in Yemen?</p><p>Maybe he'll go join his pals Ayman and Osama in Pakistan, another place where the imbeciles at 1600 Pennsylvania have decided it's cool to ignore while Al Qaeda prospers.</p><p>But remember, Iran "may" be building a nuke which they "may" choose to use at some point in a number of years. So let's go after those guys and ignore the ones who, you know, already attacked us.</p></p>

<p>Yemeni authorities have arrested dozens of people suspected of links to Monday's suicide bombing which killed seven Spanish tourists and two Yemenis. The government has been working with the U.S. counter-terrorism experts since the September 11th attacks.
